basically there's these two guys, john and owen, and owen thinks he's god's instrument. owen's really interesting haha, since he has a child's size and voice due to some things, but he has this really engaging personality... idk how to describe it, but it's like a book written regarding theology and the presence of god and revolving around it but also criticizing it, and it feels like a very american book because it follows through their childhood and up through the war, and it's like an overlapped narrative where john is looking back??

i think you'd like it because it's pretty thoughtful about theology but also just has this sense of humor running through it, like shenanigans happen during their childhood that's just really absurd and there's just this surreal quality to the text, like in the life of pi but in an american setting
